Petros Loutas | VP, QA/QC & Regulatory Affairs
1. What is your role at Bioriginal, and how long have you been there?
I lead and direct the Operations side of Bioriginal’s business. Prior to taking the position of VP of Operations, I was the VP QA/QC and Regulatory Affairs for the last 3 years, overseeing and assisting our team with all compliance requirements during a time of major Regulatory changes in our Industry. I have been with Bioriginal for over 12 years, heavily involved in the manufacturing side prior to my current role.
2. How has your previous experience helped you at Bioriginal?
I was born to oil (my family owned and operated an extra virgin olive oil plant). My grandfather was my first tutor and mentor on what is good and wholesome about olive oil. Prior to joining Bioriginal in 2000, my career was dedicated to oilseeds and oil processing (canola, soya and other major oilseed crops). My direct involvement and training in Manufacturing, QA/QC activities and operations management, as well as intimate knowledge of oils and fats chemistry and properties, are the greatest tools that allow me to meet whatever challenges come my way in our business.
3. What professional moment or achievement are you most proud of?
There have been many, but one that stands out the most was in 2001 when we went from concept, to pilot, to commercial run on CLA production at a critical time of Bioriginal’s entry in that market. The sheer effort of meeting objectives that seemed insurmountable at the time, and our success in building a complete and reliable line from scratch in a short period of time…unforgettable!!
4. What is your favorite part of Bioriginal?
Diversification. Bioriginal is in a unique space that covers the full spectrum of essential fatty acid potential and not just omega 3s. This has offered the convenience to customers of a one-stop shop approach.
5. Do you personally take any nutritional supplements? If so, which nutritional supplements do you take?
Yes. I am a great believer of the benefits of a diet rich in fish, as well as specialty vegetable oils such as Borage. In my family we consume borage in many different ways, including leaves and flowers, as well as the oil.
6. What is one thing that people might not know about you?
The challenging Art of architectural modeling and Origami cards! Paper is more than just for writing, and I find the process absorbing, and totally relaxing. It is so much fun seeing a flat surface take on a life of its own.
