Coconut Oil for Beautiful Hair and Skin

Coconut oil can be used as a moisturizer for our skin, balm for our lips, make-up remover for our eyes, and as an ingredient in face masks, face washes and scrubs.  Coconut oil can also be applied on our hair and scalp to enhance hair strength and growth, and give it a beautiful shine.  It can also be heated for a hot oil or split-end treatment for dry hair.

Whipped Coconut Oil Body Butter

This recipe is sourced from the Living the Nourished Life

Ingredients

  • 1 cup coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon vitamin E oil (optional)
  • A few drops of your favorite essential oils for fragrance (optional)

Directions

  1. Put all ingredients into a mixing bowl. (Do not melt the coconut oil.  It will only whip up if it’s solid.  If it’s liquid at room temperature, refrigerate until it hardens.)
  2. Mix on high speed with a wire whisk for 6-7 minutes or until whipped into a light, airy consistency.
  3. Spoon the whipped coconut oil body butter into a glass jar and cover tightly. Store at room temperature, or in the refrigerator if your house is so warm it melts the oil.

Coconut Oil, Egg and Honey Hair Mask

This recipe is sourced from Delicious Obsessions

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons of raw honey
  • 1 large egg yolk

Directions

  1. If the coconut oil is solid, warm it over low heat until it melts.
  2. Remove from the heat and whisk in the honey. This might take a minute or two of whisking to get the ingredients to combine.
  3. In a bowl, separate the egg yolk and white (or, you can use the whole egg if you prefer).
  4. Gently whisk the egg yolk and then slowly add in the coconut oil and honey mixture. Whisk until thoroughly combined.
  5. Apply to dry hair and massage into the hair and the scalp. It is helpful to have someone help you with this, if you can find a willing party. That way, they can ensure you get your entire scalp covered.
  6. Cover your hair with a shower cap and leave on as long as you can, even overnight if you’re willing. Every so often, you can squish your hair around through the shower cap if you’d like. If you sleep with this mixture in your hair, cover your pillow with an old towel, just in case some leaks out.
  7. When you’re ready to wash it out, just rinse with warm water until everything is removed. If you feel like you hair is still too oily, you can use a gentle shampoo, but if you can avoid shampooing, that is best.
  8. Dry and style as normal.
