Cod Liver Oil

Cod liver oil has been used for hundreds of years as a medicine and tonic to relive a number of ailments. In 1766, hospitals in England were prescribing cod liver oil for rheumatism, and in the 1800s, this oil was commonly used to treat rickets, a bone condition arising from the lack of vitamin D. Cod liver oil is a rich natural source of omega-3 actives EPA and DHA, as well as vitamins A and D. The nutrients in cod liver oil support cardiovascular health, joint health, cognitive health and eye health. We all remember stories of having to take spoonfuls of straight cod liver oil and putting up with the unpleasant taste and odor of the oil. Today, new processing and refining techniques and delivery systems allow us to receive all the benefits of cod liver oil without the taste and odor.

EPA: This omega-3 fatty acid supports cardiovascular health and prenatal health while lowering symptoms associated with depression, bipolar and arthritic conditions.

DHA: Studies show that DHA supports brain development, cognitive function, healthy vision, cardiovascular health and prenatal health while lowering symptoms associated with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and arthritis.

Vitamin A: Supplementing with vitamin A can lower the risk of night blindness, a condition making it difficult to see clearly in dim light. This vitamin improves the function of white blood cells and our body’s immune response. Vitamin A also supports reproduction, bone health and cellular growth.

Vitamin D: Our body needs vitamin D to strengthen our bones and teeth by increasing absorption of calcium. Children who are deficient of this vitamin can develop a condition called rickets, causing weak bones and skeletal deformities. Vitamin D is also supports immune response and cell growth, and may help prevent chronic fatigue.
