General Manager

Reporting to the VP of Operations, the General Manager has responsibility and oversight for all of the operations within the Reedsburg, WI facility, ensuring focus on the Company’s safety, quality, efficiency and cost objectives.  The role ensures that there is strong teamwork and collaboration amongst the various functions within the facility, with the goal being to achieve corporate goals.

 

Core Responsibilities:

Plant Operations

  • Directs the overall activities of the facility to ensure customer orders are received, scheduled, produced and shipped at the lowest possible cost to meet customer requirements, while maintaining corporate standards and expectations.
  • Possesses a strong and thorough understanding of the Company’s business processes, products and operating philosophy.
  • Ensures that the facility operates in a manner which optimizes safety and is in compliance with all federal, state and corporate requirements.
  • Works with the Maintenance Manager to ensure that the equipment and facilities are kept in optimal working condition.
  • Works with the VP of Operations in planning, implementing and managing capital improvement projects to maintain and/or improve overall plant performance, product quality, budgeting and cost efficiencies.
  • Ensures the plant is compliant with HACCP, FDA, GMP, SOP, Safety, Kosher and other relevant programs.
  • Develops, implements and sustains high housekeeping and sanitation standards within the plant.
  • Working with the Supply Chain Manager, ensures an adequate supply of product is maintained, keeping strong relationships with various vendors and suppliers.
  • Working with the Operations Manager, reviews and recommends process changes to maintain or improve cost/benefit ratios.
  • Working with various key stakeholders, ensures equipment and processes are running optimally to produce the highest yields.
  • Other miscellaneous duties as required.

 

Plant Leadership

  • Instills and maintains a culture of employee engagement, accountability, respect and employee recognition.
  • Develops accountabilities and expectations (i.e. position agreements) for all direct reports, and provides input into position agreements for indirect reports as well.
  • Works with and collaborates with various functions (i.e. Quality Assurance, Finance, R&D, Sales, HR, Safety, etc.) to ensure optimal plant operations are occurring.
  • Ensures that performance management processes are followed and adhered to at all levels within the plant.
  • Implements and maintains various initiatives to help ensure a culture of employee engagement.
  • Ensures optimal staffing levels are maintained.
  • Looks into and resolves employee relations issues, involving human resources as required.
  • Other leadership functions as required.

 

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of operations, supply chain, quality or maintenance leadership within the dairy processing industry.
  • Related post-secondary education is preferred.
  • Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of applicable regulatory laws.
  • Demonstrated ability to hire, develop and grow staff.
  • Must possess or develop an organization-wide perspective and understanding of how the business operates.
  • Strong leadership skills required.
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills required.
  • A strong understanding of various dairy processes is required.
  • Familiarity and understanding of quality assurance and food safety requirements.
  • Must be able to put together strategic plans to help drive business performance.
