Whole Grape Extract

Since its introduction in 1996, BioVin® has established itself as a premium quality grape extract with unique properties. This full spectrum extract is manufactured in France from both grape seeds to access all the beneficial phytochemicals found in the whole grape. Studies suggest that compounds such as anthocyanidins, proanthocyanidins, trans-resveratrol and polyphenols derived from grapes play a role in enhancing the antioxidant capacity of blood and protecting proteins and LDL cholesterol against oxidative damage. Anthocyanidins are responsible for the deep purple color of this material.

Oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs): Oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs), also known as proanthocyanidins and procyanidins. These compounds are most prevalent in red wine and are considered most beneficial to human health. Procyanidin dimers make up the bulk of OPCs found in grapes. They are the correct size to be potent antioxidants and yet be immediately bioavailable. In addition, procyanidin dimers are the correct size for enzyme binding, which may account for the cardioprotective effects of red wine consumption. These enzymes are also critical in detoxifying carcinogens and repairing damaged DNA. Oxidation of proteins such as enzymes inhibits their activity, leading to metabolic disorders and risk of chronic diseases.*

Anthocyanidins: Anthocyanidins are the specific chemical compounds that are responsible for the pigmentation of various fruits and vegetables. Anthocyanidins are most widely known for their antioxidant properties. Antioxidants are remarkable for their healing power inside the body. These chemicals prevent the oxidization of certain compounds and fight attacks on the body from harmful chemicals. The health benefits of antioxidants include anti-carcinogen qualities, cardiovascular health, and a range of other positive effects. Anthocyanidins in particular have also been shown to have a positive effect on collagen.*

Trans-Resveratrol: Trans-resveratrol is a phytoalexin manufactured by grapes as a response to fungal invasion. When ingested, trans-resveratrol may provide health benefits, ranging from protection against disease to antiaging properties.*
